If you noticed code 5D, SUD, SD during washing, it means that the level of foam in the washing machine is too high. You can see it in the drum or outside the machine – on the powder tray.

What does the 5D error mean?

Samsung washers are equipped with a foam control function. If there is too much of it, the machine turns to a mode that suppresses foam formation. The resulting error 5D indicates the impossibility of reducing the amount of foam – the washer waits for the foam to settle naturally. This process usually lasts a long time and depends on the concentration of the powder diluted in water.

All three codes – 5D, SUD, SD – indicate the same malfunction. The code depends on the model of the machine.

Why the error occurs

If error SUD appears on the display, you must first find out the cause of the problem. Such code appears if:

• You used the powder which is not good for automatic machines;
• An overly concentrated powder was used – the machine could not cope with it;
• The use of a poor quality powder;
• A dose of detergent for one wash cycle was exceeded;
• The foam sensor has failed;
• The water level sensor broke;
• The hose for water drainage, the nozzle, the sewage system are clogged;
• There was a serious failure of the control unit (but in this case the washing machine displays error 5D very rarely).

First of all, check the washing powder – opting out for another one is often enough to solve the problem.

How to fix the problem with your own hands

If the Samsung washing machine displays code 5D during washing, and the amount of foam in the drum is big, then it is necessary to take the following actions:

1. Wait a little until foam settles down. The wash will automatically resume by itself. Some models of Samsung washers require you to press the wash button;
2. At the end of the wash cycle, clean the drain filter;
3. Remove the remaining powder – you need to start the washing machine without laundry, choosing a long wash and high temperature;
4. Change the powder if there is constant appearance of a large amount of foam in the drum.
